On a recent Sunday, Magdalen’s polyphony choir traveled to Saint John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish in Clinton, MA, to sing with Cor Unum Chorale under the direction of acclaimed composer and conductor Paul Jernberg. The polyphony choir is Magdalen’s premiere ensemble, auditioned annually and entrusted with singing the finest sacred music in the patrimony of the Church. The choir’s 21 members presented an original, entirely sung setting of the Liturgy composed by Jernberg. Next month, the whole student body will have the opportunity to learn from Jernberg in a special workshop offered on campus.

Magdalen College is grateful for Jernberg’s sustained outreach to Magdalen, a collaboration which began in 2018 when the entire student body participated in the filming of The Fire of Your Love,  a video production aired on EWTN. Director of Collegiate Choirs, Tristan Smith, observed, “This enduring collaboration is a shining example of how Magdalen College is at the forefront of Catholic sacred music. No other Newman Guide college entwines music, one of the classical liberal arts, with the praxis of Faith as part of its core four-year curriculum. I am humbled by the opportunity to work with Paul and am grateful for his investment in the hearts and minds of our students.”
