Abigail Adams is said to have written the following: “Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence.”  Traveling to the Catholic University of America (CUA) in January of 2019 to explore graduate school possibilities, four Magdalen College seniors sought “with ardor and diligence” to discover the next steps of their education.   Led by Ms. Jordan Hodge from the Career Pathways Program, these four seniors traveled to Washington D.C. to explore the University and its offerings.

Visiting campus and experiencing the Bush School of Business at CUA, Valerie Cousineau ’19 found the confirmation she needed to complete her decision to attend.  Having already been accepted, Valerie only needed some inward confirmation.  “I want to be one hundred percent sure,” she commented, going on to add that as soon as she got there, she knew it was the place for her.  Her favorite part of the trip was attending three wonderfully engaging classes.  In one such class, the students were studying a form of data analysis which allows researchers to determine where flu epidemics are breaking out based on web searches.

Accompanying Miss Cousineau, Sean Haefner ‘19, Lupita Gonzallez ‘19, and Emma Towne ’19 also visited the university, exploring the departments of philosophy, law, and library information sciences.   After visiting classes, meeting CUA students, and experiencing the campus, the four seniors returned home to campus with a better idea of where they hoped to continue their education.
