Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts is committed to making it possible for all eligible students to afford a faithfully Catholic, liberal education. For this reason we go to great lengths to create a pathway for qualified students to attend. Though some families might believe that the education we offer is out of reach, it is not. Scholarships, grants, and other means of financing are available for those who qualify. Please read this section carefully and contact us with any questions you may have.

For need-based grants or scholarships, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The college will review the FAFSA and determine a student’s eligibility for the Magdalen College Grant, which is a need-based institutional award. We may consider other factors in a student’s financial situation to determine need but documentation is always requested in this situation.
Merit-based scholarships offered by the college are determined by the requirements of the various awards as outlined in the Institutional Financial Aid section of this webpage and in the College Catalog.
Our goal is to ensure that funds are distributed equitably to the students in greatest financial need. If a student has accepted a financial aid package from the college and subsequently receives an additional award either from the college or an outside agency, the financial aid package will be adjusted.
Magdalen College scholarships, grants, and discounts are part of a student’s total financial aid package. When the total of all aid received by the student exceeds the student’s cost of attendance, awards in the package will be adjusted (canceled or reduced) in order to eliminate the over-award.
To assess the level of a student’s financial need, the college reviews the amount the student and his or her family are expected to contribute. This is the EFC or Expected Family Contribution on the FAFSA. There is no other application for need-based aid but we may take into account other family circumstances which would not be calculated on the FAFSA itself.
Merit-based aid may require academic essays or proof of community service, depending on the award. Please refer to the section on Types of Financial Aid for these requirements.

As indicated above, Magdalen College is committed to making it possible for all eligible students to receive a faithfully Catholic, liberal education. Thus, the college will make every effort to ensure that our education is affordable for families who feel it is out of reach. Please take a few minutes to fill out an application and help us create a path for you to attend Magdalen College. Financial Aid may come in the form of need-based grants, merit-based scholarships, loans, or a combination of these. Contact admissions today to begin your application!
The Financial Aid Office is always available to assist students with questions and concerns about applying for financial aid, whether institutional aid or federal aid.
