Fall Semester Ends on Ice

Posted on 12/24/2008

On Thursday, December 11, with the final exams in the rear-view mirror, every Magdalen College student looked forward to traveling home for Christmas break.  But the worst ice storm in New Hampshire's history struck that afternoon, downing tree limbs and power lines. The next morning, hundreds of thousands of New Hampshire homes and businesses were left without power, including our campus.

Despite the inclement weather, students were able to fly out of Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and Boston's Logan International Airport on Friday, and everyone made it home safely.

Many faculty and staff members lost power over the weekend, some waiting several days for their power to be restored.  Still, we are thankful that the campus and homes of college employees were not damaged during the ice storm.

The weather did not manage to dampen the spirit of excitement and joy as the entire College community gathered for the traditional Advent Prayer Service and Party.  And the Fall Semester certainly had its share of highlights in the final weeks, including a trip by the entire student body to Boston's famous Symphony Hall for a stellar performance of Handel's Messiah

As Advent draws to a close, we wish to extend to you our prayers for a very blessed and peaceful Christmas season.
